The New England Patriots reportedly made two promotions on Tuesday.
Zak Kuhr, who spent the majority of last season calling defensive plays, had his interim tag removed and will officially be named defensive coordinator, according to NFL Media's Tom Pelissero. Vinny DePalma, who has spent each of the last two seasons as a general defensive assistant, will be elevated to inside linebackers coach, according to ESPN's Mike Reiss.
Kuhr, 37, first stepped into his now full-time role after then-defensive coordinator Terrell Williams stepped away while battling cancer in Week 2. The Patriots' defense continuously improved under his direction, eventually finishing as the No. 4 scoring defense (18.8 points per game) in the NFL on their way to appearing in Super Bowl LX.
DePalma, 27, has spent each of the last two seasons as a general defensive assistant after his five-year career as a linebacker at Boston College.
Williams, 51, is now cancer-free and has been moved into a high-ranking role on the defensive coaching staff.
New England also reportedly made an outside addition, with Southern Mississippi running backs coach BJ Edmonds is joining the organization in an unclear role, according to a report from ESPN's Pete Thamel.
