The New England Patriots reportedly made an outside addition to their coaching staff on Tuesday.

Southern Mississippi running backs coach BJ Edmonds is joining the organization in an unclear role, according to a report from ESPN's Pete Thamel.

Edmonds has bounced around the college ranks, just recently taking his job at Southern Miss after stints as a defensive analyst at Duke (2024-2025), defensive recruiting analyst and defensive graduate assistant at Utah State (2021-2023) and a defensive graduate assistant at Kansas Wesleyan (2020).

Edmonds played for four seasons as a cornerback at Arkansas State (2016-2019).

The Patriots are believed to have lost two assistant coaches this offseason: assistant offensive line coach Robert Kugler and defensive assistant Milton Patterson.

New England reportedly also made two internal moves on Tuesday, officially promoting new defensive coordinator Zak Kuhr and new inside linebackers coach Vinny DePalma. ESPN's Adam Schefter and Mike Reiss combined on those reports.
