After an offseason full of trade rumors, the Boston Red Sox are seemingly not trading Jarren Duran away.
Duran has been the subject of trade rumors since last summer. However, the Red Sox have reportedly put a high price tag on him, and do not view having four star outfielders as a problem. However, Duran spoke on whether the rumors affected him in any way.
“I never look at that stuff,” Duran said Monday, per MassLive's Christopher Smith. “My parents look at it enough for me. So they text me and go, ‘Did you get traded?’ I’m like, ‘You really think I’m not going to tell you if I get traded? Come on.’ So, no, I never give it any two cents. It’s in God’s hands and whatever happens, happens.”
Duran was an All-Star in 2024 and was also the All-Star Game MVP. He declined slightly last season, but still posted a .774 OPS and had 70 extra-base hits. In the second half, he had an .818 OPS.
Duran struggled against left-handed pitching last season, posting just a .600 OPS. He had a .665 OPS against southpaws last season. Although it was not great, it was better than last season. Duran spoke on his regression against lefties.
"(2023) was pretty good. (2024) was pretty good,” Duran told Smith. “Lefties make adjustments, too. They know what I hit really good, so they make adjustments. So I did pretty good against left in (2024). So in (2025), they adjusted. In (2026), I can adjust to them.”
Duran figures to split time in left field and at designated hitter next season. Ceddanne Rafaela, Wilyer Abreu and Roman Anthony are all capable of playing regularly as well, so the Red Sox will need to be creative with getting them all at-bats.
