Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora has taken notice of newcomer Andruw Monasterio during the early stages of 2026 spring training.
Cora offered strong comments when asked which players have stood out so far.
“Monasterio, great athlete. … A guy that in a trade, yeah you see him from afar, whatever. But then you see him here, it’s like oh shoot he can move, he’s versatile, he can hit lefties, he’s got some pop,” the skipper said.

With Grapefruit League games set to begin shortly, Monasterio continues to impress the coaching staff with his range, positional flexibility and offensive potential against southpaws. The Red Sox, navigating a loaded AL East, value depth options like the 28-year-old who can contribute immediately in multiple spots.
Cora’s endorsement arrives as Boston evaluates its infield mix ahead of the regular season. Monasterio’s combination of speed, glove work and extra-base power could earn him a bench role or even more regular playing time depending on how camp unfolds.
